Differences between G3 and G4
-
A new map,
with changes to the geography, skills and markets
of the non-surface worlds (Hades, Faery, the Cloudlands and the Subworld)
- Slight changes to skill distribution in cities on the surface
-
Changed the research requirements of a bunch of skills and
renumbered them to make the skill descriptions tidy again.
See the skills page for the details
- Made aura costs for gates and teleporting match what the skill descriptions say
- Added a starting option to start in a random non-safe-haven city that has no-one in it
- Increased returns from pillaging, but increased recovery time too
- Stopped garrisons without enough soldiers from doing garrisonny things
- Increased breed time of Centaurs to 14 days
- Re-enabled civ level restriction on research by powerful mages
- Made it possible to get scrolls teaching category skills from quests
- New players are automatically given a random password
- Made the game engine a bit more configurable.
This allows changes to garrison pay (now 2gp/day),
auto-quit (now turned on after 8 turns of inactivity)
and number of men that reduce a noble's movement speed (now 20)
to be made without changing the source code.
- Prevented castles from being destroyed by unsuccessful sieges
- Cleaned up FORGET handling
- Healing potions now restore health as well as curing sickness
- Added opium to swamps
- BUY and SELL orders with no price given are now rejected rather than
assuming a price of 1
- The contact order is no longer silent
- Fixed a number of bugs, including:
- "MAKE 52 0" not terminating properly
- "COLLECT 31" not requiring any skill
- Building with large numbers of workers not using all the required resources
- Random monsters in Hades and Faery now respect Transcend Death and elfstones respectively
- Noble ranks are now reduced when you pledge
- Auraculums now require materials to create
- UNLOAD no longer unloads members of the captains' stack
- Bird Spy [651] now works if the user is inside a structure
- A bunch of (hopefully) invisible changes to make Olympia run on modern systems
